As part of its month-long project to remove the temporary “falsework” that had supported the Crenshaw/LAX Project bridge over Century Boulevard during its initial construction, Metro will close all eastbound lanes of Century Boulevard between Aviation Boulevard and Bellanca Avenue starting tonight, Friday, August 5, at 11 p.m., until 6 a.m. the following morning. The work will also close the left-most westbound lane.
No closures are scheduled for Saturday or Sunday nights, but the work will resume Monday, August 8, at 11 p.m. to 6 a.m. each weeknight. From August 8 through August 13, all eastbound lanes and the left-most westbound lane will be closed. From August 15 through August 20, all westbound lanes will be closed. From August 22 through August 27, all eastbound lanes and the left-most westbound lane will be closed.
All schedules above are dependent upon weather conditions. Emergency access will be maintained at all times. Metro will install detour signage. Metro also advises that if one week’s work is completed earlier, its contractor will begin on work that was scheduled for the following week. If this occurs, full one-directional closure of Century Boulevard will then reverse to accommodate the accelerated schedule. Metro and its contractor, Walsh-Shea Corridor Constructors — as well as airport officials — will inform the public if the work switches directions on Century Boulevard earlier than scheduled.
Metro will detour traffic around the closure. When westbound Century Boulevard is closed, automobiles will be diverted north on Aviation Boulevard, west on West Arbor Vitae Street, south on Airport Boulevard, then west on Century Boulevard. Trucks will be directed to turn north on La Cienega
Boulevard, west on West Arbor Vitae Street, south on Airport Boulevard, and then west on Century
Boulevard. During those weeknights when all eastbound Century Boulevard lanes are closed, all
vehicles will be directed north on Airport Boulevard, east onto West Arbor Vitae Street before heading south on Aviation Boulevard to rejoin Century Boulevard. See detour maps below.
