MAYOR VILLARAIGOSA, SUPERVISOR MARK RIDLEY-THOMAS TO CELEBRATE FUNDING FOR LEIMERT PARK VILLAGE STATION ON CRENSHAW/LAX LINE

LOS ANGELES — Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, Supervisor Mark Ridley-Thomas, and community leaders will celebrate actions by the LA City Council and Metro this week that will fully fund a Leimert Park Village Station on the future Crenshaw/LAX light rail line at 9:00 a.m. on Friday, May 24, at 4395 Leimert Blvd, Los Angeles, 90008.
The 8.5 mile Crenshaw line, expected to open in late 2018, will connect existing rail service on the Green Line with the Exposition Line. Since the adoption of the project, Mayor Villaraigosa has been an advocate for a fiscally responsible way to build the optional stop in Leimert Park Village. Supervisor Ridley-Thomas has long championed a station in Leimert Park, working to bring together local, state and federal resources and support for the project.
On Wednesday, City Council voted for and the Mayor approved a motion to commit $40 million in Measure R local return funds for an underground station at Leimert Park Village.
On Thursday, the Metro Board of Directors voted to contribute $80 million to fully fund the Leimert Park Village station.
The new City and County funding is a safeguard if the station is not included in design-build contracts that the Board could consider as early as June.
