Lyniece Cobb Blount was born to Oscar Cobb and Willie Nell Ford Cobb in Parish Alabama on February 19, 1926. She was one of three girls and one boy. Sadly, her sister died at the age of two. Lyniece’s father died at an early age and her mother died shortly thereafter.
Orphaned at the age of 10-years-old, she went to live with her aunt and uncle in Birmingham, Alabama. She attended Lincoln Elementary School, Parker High School and Miles College.
She married Walker Blount, Sr. after two and a half years of college, traveling with him during his military career. They had two sons, Walker Blount, Jr. and Kevin Blount. The family moved to Los Angeles in 1959.
Lyniece worked for the county of Los Angeles for five-and-one-half years while being very active with the P.T.A. Also, she was a member of St. Mark’s Lutheran Church where she was elected to serve two terms as the president of the Lutheran Church Women. She was the first woman to hold this position and the first Black woman to serve as president of a Lutheran Church council during the 1960s.
She worked in her community, the neighborhood and the Police Community Policing groups under Chief Willie Williams, the first African American police chief for Los Angeles in 1992.
Lyniece has received awards from Mayor Tom Bradley, and Assemblyman Frank Holoman for her community involvement and held a coffee meeting for Councilman Billy Mills and Councilman Robert Ferrell in her home.
After she graduated from Echols Travel School in Brentwood, California, Lyniece worked in the travel industry at TWA airlines, Hertz Rent-A-Car, Dollar Car Rentals and other related companies. Due to an injury on-the-job, Lyniece left her position.
Lyniece touched a number of lives and had a great many close friends. Her education and experience was broad. She was a fearless world traveler who visited the Caribbean, Canary Islands and Africa as well as extensively traveled throughout the United States.
In 1996, she moved to Rowland Heights, California where she resided until her passing on July 15, 2022.
