The brass at STARZ network pulled out all the stops, last week, to celebrate the end of the road for the explosive show “Power” with a concert event held at New York’s Madison Square Garden.
Season 6 picks up with James “Ghost” St. Patrick seeking vengeance, his former drug partner and brother in arms must pay for the ultimate betrayal. Rocked to his core by the perfidiousness and cruelties of those he once called his family, Ghost devotes himself to one notion: Success is the best revenge, with all intentions of getting both. Ghost aims to get even with Tommy, get the QCP built to consecrate Raina’s legacy, and finally achieve a thriving legitimate lifestyle with no criminal strings attached. Ghost’s need to wrest satisfaction and happiness from this world by any means necessary — is the most danger he’s ever faced. As the Feds grow closer to convicting him, Ghost must remain vigilant toward those wanting to take him down for his past criminal enterprises.
From the moment fans started arriving they were greeted by very enthusiastic members of a street team that possed the type of swagger that would make the series character Tommy smile. They handed out “Power” cupcakes (delicious), “Power” keyrings (useful) and “Power” towels (throwing in the towel, get it). Despite a packed red carpet, everything started on time and in a blink of an eye, or so it seemed, Madison Square Garden was filled and then, we waited.

began with a video that highlighted the death count from “Power” seasons one through five. In season one, seven deaths. In season two, 17 deaths. In season three, 24 deaths. In season four, 26 deaths. In season, five 32 deaths.
The crowd inside Madison Square Garden felt a certain way when the death count began offering “oohs and ahhs” when fans got to briefly glimpse the demise of their favorite characters, RIP. In case you were wondering and had any doubt it’s Tommy Egan who has killed the most main characters in the series with four. They include the love of his life, Holly Weaver, Carlos Ruiz, Milan, and Tony Teresi.
God Bless Starz they pulled out all the stops with a concert that featured 50 Cent, Snoop Dogg, Trey Songz, Case, A$AP Ferg, Casanova, G4 Boyz, YFN Lucci, Keni Burke, Alicia Myers, and Lil’ Mo. The line up must have looked amazing on paper and for the first fifteen minutes the stadium was rocking to the nostalgia of 50 Cent and Snoop, but then it went on and on, and on, and on, and on, and on.
When a ripple of voices began inside the VIP section, I followed the sea of turning heads who were all straining to get a glimpse and a photograph of Russell Simmons. Later, as the concert dragged on, I turned my attention to Mr. Simmons, curious to watch his reaction to what was happening on stage. Here is what I witnessed. He looked like I felt and his yawns, for me, colored the evenings’ concert event.
Long live “Power.” I salute the creative team for having the good sense to end the series at season six.
