Local stations, along with Ralphs and Food 4 Less supermarkets, raise funds for school supplies in support of homeless students across five counties in Southern California

NBC4 / KNBC and Telemundo 52 Los Angeles / KVEA today announced the return of its Supporting Our Schools / Apoyando A Nuestras Escuelas donation drive starting from July 11 to 19.  This year, the stations are teaming up with Ralphs and Food 4 Less to provide homeless students in Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside, San Bernardino and Ventura Counties with the necessary school supplies to start the new academic year this fall.

Viewers and the general public are invited to make a $1 or more donation at check-out when shopping at their local Ralphs and Food 4 Less supermarket. All proceeds will go to School on Wheels to benefit elementary to high school-age students. School on Wheels is a nonprofit organization that provides school supplies, tutoring and other educational services to children living in shelters, motels, vehicles, foster homes, and on the streets in Southern California.

“Every child deserves a great education and having basic school supplies will help our students and our communities thrive,” said Steve Carlston, President and General Manager of NBC4.  “Uniting our efforts through the Supporting our Schools initiative will make a lasting impact among thousands.”

“Thousands of students in Southern California do not have a home to live in, let alone the basic school supplies needed to succeed academically,” said Celia Chavez, President and General Manager of Telemundo 52 Los Angeles. “We invite the community to join the initiative and help build a brighter future for our students.”

Supporting Our Schools is an awareness campaign spearheaded by NBCUniversal Owned Television Stations, a division of NBCUniversal that includes NBC4 and Telemundo 52. Since 2017, NBC and Telemundo owned stations in the U.S., and Puerto Rico have raised more than $2.7 million in cash and collected nearly one million school supplies for teachers and students in need.
