The victims of Hurricanes Harvey will receive more financial support, thanks to the efforts of six L.A.-area Baptist organizations.
The leaders of the Baptist Ministers Conference of Los Angeles and Southern California (BMC), Western Baptist State Convention (WBSC), California Missionary Baptist State Convention (CMBSC), California Baptist State Convention (CBSC), Progressive Baptist State Convention (PBSC), and Full Gospel Church Fellowship Southern California (FGBCF) are uniting to present “Baptists 4 Hurricane Harvey Relief Sunday” on Sept. 24, at 7 p.m., at Praises of Zion Baptist, 8222 S. San Pedro St., in Los Angeles.
Each group will combine the offerings collected by member churches on Sept. 17, with the funds raised at the hurricane relief service and send the total amount to associated Baptist ministries in Texas and Louisiana as well as Florida, where communities were hit by Hurricane Irma earlier this week.
Heading the campaign are BMC President Xavier L. Thompson, WBSC President J. Benjamin Hardwick, CMBSC President E. Wayne Gaddis, CBSC President Welton Pleasant, PBSC Kenneth Hall, and FGBCF State Bishop Johnny Withers.
“We believe leadership is partnership and what we cannot do alone, we can accomplish together in a unified effort. When the Lord gave the vision to bring all Baptists in the city together, you cannot do that without the support of our five-star generals in the body of Christ,” said Thompson. “It’s a wonderful opportunity and a great cause to give assistance to people who are in need.”
Expressing similar thoughts, Hardwick added, “Our hearts go out to the people of Texas and Florida. If we can collaborate to help them, then we are going to do it. It’s a calamity on one hand, but also a blessing because we are all coming together to do something for someone else.”
Both ministers encourage the public to attend the service, however those who are unable to attend are invited to make contributions payable to the Baptist Ministers Conference and mail them to the Western Baptist State Convention, 8222 S. San Pedro St., in Los Angeles.
