Famous for over 50 years, Smokey Robinson shows no signs of slowing down. Most prominent as a singer, he wrote and sang a slew of hits over the years, including enduring classics like “You’ve Really Got a Hold on Me” and “I Second That Emotion” with The Miracles, followed by “Cruisin’” and “Being with You” as a solo artist. He became Vice President of Motown in the ‘70s, and was highly successful as a songwriter and producer for artists like Marvin Gaye and The Temptations.
Robinson’s newest business endeavor is Skinphonic, a skincare system he and his wife Frances helped develop with the assistance of a few skincare experts.
This is a line that was born of their own beauty needs. “It was a personal thing with me and Frances,” said Robinson. “She had skin damage from swimming and waterskiing. My skin is dry and I play golf and fly in planes a lot. We needed things for our skin but didn’t want to just cover it up or mask problems.”
To that end, Smokey and Frances have his-and-her lines with Skinphonic, both named for hit songs Robinson wrote for The Temptations: My Girl is the women’s line, while Get Ready is the men’s line.
“These are the first skincare lines formulated especially for people of color,” said Robinson. “People of all skin colors can use these products, but pigmented skin’s cellular structure is a bit different and doesn’t respond the same to some ingredients.”
Each program, made up of three steps, features a cleanser and two moisturizers, one for day and another for night. “No man wants to do ten steps,” said Robinson. “This line is so simple, and we’re proud of the reaction. 96% of people tested saw results.”
“I had melasma but I didn’t want to use hydroquinone,” said Frances. “That’s the most common thing prescribed for melasma, but it’s not natural and it’s illegal in Europe. Since using these products, my melasma is almost completely gone.” To avoid the dangers of hydroquinone and the like, these products are laden with natural ingredients, including aloe vera, shea butter, green tea extract, jojoba seed oil, almond extract, and retinol. I’ve been using the products for the last few week and am pleased with how soft and clear my skin looks and feels.
Just look at the photo at the top of this page — Smokey just turned 77, while Frances is in her 60s. Seems there’s no better proof that Skinphonic works than this pair and their glowing complexions.
