Preparation for the traditional Christmas Concert of Transfiguration Catholic Church is underway, and this year’s performance promises to surpass previously presented ones, according to Choir Director Oscar Pratt.

The annual fundraiser will be held in the edifice at 2515 West Martin Luther King, Jr., Boulevard in Los Angeles on Sunday, December 22, at 7 p.m.  The theme is “Hail True Body born of the Virgin Mary,” or “Ave Verum Corpus Natum de Maria Virgine.”

“This time, our members are especially stimulated. Just as our Lord Jesus was transfigured on the mountain top to a higher dimension, the true meaning of Christmas and the addition of a string ensemble have inspired our members to greatly enhance their performance,” declared Pratt.

“The musical ensemble consisting of violins, the cello and viola will put this particular concert over the top,” he said. Tania Fleisher, Music Professor at Loyola Marymount University (LMU), will lead the string ensemble.

Equally excited concerning the upcoming event is Pastor Michael R. Tang, who said the choir’s renditions are uplifting and inspiring.

“We must remember, when we sing, we pray twice. The choir’s singing inspires me to deliver God’s Message with greater intensity,” said Father Tang, who is also a full-time professor of Art and Art History at LMU.

Santa is expected to appear in full costume and stroll down the aisle distributing ‘sweet treats’ as the choir sings a jolly Christmas tune. Refreshments will be served in the parish hall following the concert.  Admission is $15 for adults and $7 for children.
