Cal Reparations Task Force Votes to Replace Economic Advisor

One day after Darrick Hamilton testified before California’s Task Force to Study and Develop Reparation Proposals for African Americans, the panel decided that it would not enter into a contractual agreement with the noted economist.

Anemic Chargers Lose To Vikings, 27-20

UCLA Adding Personnel to Manage Lines of Fans Entering Pauley Pavilion

UCLA will have additional personnel to manage the line of fans entering Pauley Pavilion for its men’s basketball games, beginning with tonight’s game against Long Beach State.

Athletic director Martin Jarmond tweeted Saturday there would also be additional structures for a better controlled line in an attempt to avoid the surge that occurred Friday when fans waited for hours to enter Pauley Pavilion for game against Villanova, prompting fears of a deadly crush similar to what happened at the Astroworld festival in Houston Nov. 5, when 10 people suffered fatal injuries in a crush of fans after panic ripped through the crowd during rapper Travis Scott’s set. The were no injuries reported in connection with Friday’s game, the first sellout for a UCLA basketball game at Pauley Pavilion since the Jan. 11, 2020, game against USC. Pauley Pavilion’s capacity is 13,659. There were about 50,000 people at the Astroworld festival.

This UCLA Women’s team is holding each other to high standards throughout this process and will focus on championship reps. They have a lot to be excited about with this new roster, but Close strives for them to be winners on and off the court.

Los Angeles Urban League and UCLA Medical Assistant Program Celebrate Students Graduating with National Certifications

The Los Angeles Urban League and UCLA Medical Assistant Program are intentional on advocating and advancing health equality. The program’s goal is not only to graduate students to work in healthcare, but also to give them a voice to speak on behalf of patients, especially those who look like them. Diversity and advocacy are important and are part of the training the students receive in the program. The importance of MA 3 graduates to confidently speak on behalf of patients is one of the services they provide to the community. Many alumni from the program have gone on to do exciting things in healthcare.

In California we had a crisis with lack of student mental health support long before the pandemic. Now it is even worse. It comes as no surprise that the pandemic has created more stress, anxiety, and other mental health issues for our children.

Student Athlete of the Week: Dorian Thompson-Robinson

UCLA senior quarterback Dorian Thompson-Robinson led the Bruins into national ranking after defeating LSU on September 4. He has made at least 50 percent of his passes in their first three games this season and has seven passing touchdowns as of September 21.

SoCal Legends: Max Irving

Max Irving found tremendous success in water polo. His skill and talent led him to UCLA and a pro career overseas. He also competed with Team USA Men’s water polo during the Tokyo Olympics.

SoCal Legends: Baron Davis

Known as “The Godfather of Los Angeles Basketball,” Baron Davis went from an elite prep athlete to an NBA All-Star who spent 15 years playing on the pro level. During his NBA career, Davis averaged 16.1 points and 3.8 rebounds per game. He also shot at 40.9 percent from the field and 32.0 percent from the three-point line.
