James W. Sweeney was born in Fresno, California on July 28, 1948, to the union of Lonnie Lee Sweeney and Evelyn Randle. He is the younger of two sons born to this union. Sweeney’s parents, and his brother Sherman Sr., preceded him in death.
Chancellor Gary S. May of the University of California, Davis, has selected Renetta Garrison Tull to serve as vice chancellor for diversity, equity and inclusion, a new position May announced last March to “engage more effectively with the recruitment and retention of the best and brightest students, faculty and staff.”
A group of the most elite sophomore, juniors and senior students of King Drew convened at the school library to share their personal stories with the Chancellor.
The University Of California Board Of Regents announced Georgia Tech Engineering Dean, Dr. Gary S. May, as the next University of California, Davis Chancellor. Dr. May will be UC Davis’ first African-American Chancellor.
Earlier this summer, University of California campuses granted bachelor’s and advanced degrees to 67,000 individuals, each with stories of personal aspiration and accomplishment.
