Wednesday, April 22. L.A. City Mayor Eric Garcetti shared current L.A. County efforts made in response to the COVID-19 Pandemic. The Los Angeles City Mayor welcomed LAPD Chief Michel Moore, to disclose events happening within Los Angeles Police Department regarding the coronavirus. Mayor Garcetti is looking for solutions from all L.A. county departments and federal government direction, as we experience the second month of the Stay at Home Order.

Monday, April 20. The Mayor of Los Angeles provided an update surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic. Mayor Eric Garcetti outlined city structures that were directly affected by coronavirus. From a fiscal perspective, L.A. is in its worst economic shape since the recession. Eric Garcetti put a budget in place to stabilize the city’s economy. Within the Annual State of the City Address, Eric Garcetti confirmed a second wave of the virus. The second wave will factor into decisions made around lifting the Stay at Home Order. Mayor Garcetti covered the CARES Corps. He stated it would help with testing, that focuses on contact tracing of the virus. The CARE Corps. Is looking to be a long-term solution for the current systematic disparities that Los Angeles is facing.

Friday, April 17. Mayor Eric Garcetti’s office announced the development of CARES Corps. This will be a federally funded initiative to be a stronger national response to COVID-19. The Mayor of Los Angeles joined the Mayor of Oklahoma City, David Holt and founding director of the Duke-Margolis Center for Health Policy, Mark McClellan to outline a “brand new infrastructure.” The CARES Corps is an alliance of the national government, local public officials, and healthcare professionals that are under federal leadership and funding. Within the CARES Corps there are three core factors that it will focus on healthcare, economy, and the unity of Government Officials.

Wednesday, April 15. L.A. Board of Supervisors welcomed county departments of Health and Business and Consumers to provide the latest news affecting their offices, amid the COVID-19 Pandemic. The conference covered concerns about rent stabilization, financial economy, and the environmental health as we prepare for spikes in positive coronavirus cases. There have been discussions about plans to re-open local businesses, but alongside California State Governor Newsom, L.A. Mayor Garcetti are very strategic on the process of re-opening local businesses. If this is not handled properly, the city could be facing multiple spikes in contracted COVID-19 cases, in addition to a higher fatality rate. Governor Gavin Newsom created a California goal list before the Stay at Home Order be totally lifted.

Mayor Eric Garcetti continues to keep Los Angeles informed; Wednesday, April 15. The elected public official shared in full transparency, there is no certain date for life to go back to the way it was. Mayor Garcetti shared five pillars to get L.A. on the right track to strategically lift quarantine guidelines and construct a new normal. The Los Angeles Mayor believes Testing, surveillance, immediate response, Hospital Capacity, and ongoing research will give L.A. a fighting chance and continue our progress post pandemic. The L.A. elected official broke down the health aspect, but also the economic disproportion that needed to be addressed.
