Everychild Foundation Awards $1.1 Million to Local Children’s Agencies

For the third year in a row, Everychild Foundation has pivoted from its innovative grantmaking approach.  The group of approximately 200 Los Angeles-area women is dedicated to easing the suffering of local children, whether due to disease, disability, abuse, neglect or poverty. Founded in 2000,  the giving circle annually awards a single $1 million grant to one agency in order to fund or expand an innovative, replicable capital project or program filling critical unmet needs.  But for the third year in a row, in order to respond to the ongoing impact of the pandemic, the women have instead shifted gears

Councilman Curren Price, Mayor Eric Garcetti and Supervisor Hilda Solis Bring Hope to Hope Street With New Homeless Shelter

It was a great day to have hope in Los Angeles as Councilman Curren Price, Mayor Eric Garcetti and Supervisor Hilda Solis celebrated the completion of the first Bridge Home in District 9. Coining the term, “Bringing Hope to Hope Street,” many gathered on March 5, to support the new temporary housing unit located on 2817 S. Hope Street. This specific location will now be the twelfth to open in LA as part of the city’s homeless shelter program. The new shelter will house 100 homeless men and women from the community and help them transition into permanent supportive housing.

Compton deserves to be healthy. This new campaign will help make that a reality.

There are lots of notable things about the city of Compton. It has a rapidly improving school system. It’s a stable, multi-racial community with a long history of African American empowerment and a growing Latinx population. Above all, Compton is a city where neighbors take care of each other. That’s the spirit behind a newly launched public health campaign, Compton Healthy, that aims to improve the health of the 100,000 people who call Compton home — because despite the community values which make Compton so strong, there are troubling health trends that must be addressed.

L.A. Care Awards $3.6 Million for Physician Recruitment

L.A. Care Health Plan, the largest publicly-operated health plan in the country, has announced the first round of Provider Recruitment Program grants as part of its Elevating the Safety Net initiative. The mission of the $31 million initiative is to recruit highly-qualified primary care physicians to the Los Angeles County safety net. The safety net is comprised of health care providers who offer access to care regardless of a patient’s ability to pay, and whose patient population includes a substantial share of the Medicaid population and the uninsured.
