Women Also Get 2nd Chance at 2nd Call

The sessions are held for those who are part of carrying out 2nd Call’s mission, which involves first healing, then redirecting the misguided toward more viable lifestyles. During the session, the women seemed to have an unspoken understanding of the power that comes from emotional healing.

In D.C., Deane said she will be pushing for: placing foster kids in homes instead of group homes, fighting for the inclusion of Teens in AMBER ALERTS (Even if they are runaways, they are still minors. Someone needs to search for them, said Deane) and stronger policies, ie. Accountability, ensuring all foster parents are qualified and trained.

Lindo Sr., will be honored as ‘Man of the Year’ during the Fathers’ Day Dinner and Concert on Sunday, June 21, at 4 p.m., at Hollypark United Methodist Church, 13000 South Van Ness Avenue in Gardena. Smith was regularly in my life. In my eyes, he was a hero and no man could compare to him. One very vivid childhood memory, was at about the age of 12, Dad took me to see the movie ‘Tap,’ with Gregory Hines. It was a very happy and exciting day, me and my Daddy, out on a date.

Dr. Whalen Jones marks 106th birthday

More than a century of living has not slowed down the Rev. Dr. Whalen Samuel Jones, who celebrated his 106th birthday on June 7. The handsome centenarian still speaks with godly wisdom, attends church on a regular basis, and shares his time and talents as pastor emeritus of Messiah Baptist Church in Los Angeles, the congregation he founded in 1954.
