The South Coast Air Quality Management District today awarded $47.4 million to 26 businesses, organizations, universities, government agencies and utility companies in the South Coast Basin and Coachella Valley to help them purchase and upgrade their equipment with cleaner and energy efficient technologies. Sybil Davis, the mother of now deceased, Anthonie Smith, has further expressed her hope that law enforcement will be required to obtain adequate training on the appropriate handling of citizens with mental illness.
A wildfire, named the Cranston Fire, is burning to the east of Hemet in Riverside County within the San Bernardino National Forest. The burn area was last reported at 11,500 acres with three percent containment. A second fire, called the Ribbon Fire, is burning to the west of Pinyon in Riverside County. Southerly winds this morning will transition to an onshore flow this afternoon with predicted gusts up to 25 mph. Winds will then transition to a northwesterly wind during the evening and overnight hours. During the overnight and early morning hours, downslope winds might bring smoke into the valleys west of the fire.
