A capacity crowd filled the West Angeles Cathedral on July 31 to celebrate the 75th birthday of the Right Rev. Charles E. Blake, presiding bishop of the Church of God in Christ denomination and pastor of West Angeles Church of God in Christ in Los Angeles. The legendary Rev. Katherine K. Shivers, pastor emeritus and founder of Tabernacle Christian Forum Church in Compton, passed away in Los Angeles on July 10. A pioneering preacher in the 1960s and 70s, Pastor Shivers was one of the first African American women to be ordained a Baptist minister in Los Angeles. Her daughter, the Rev.
