The excitement is building as New Mount Calvary Missionary Baptist Church (NMC) prepares for Legacy Weekend 2015.
In addition to Founder’s Day on Sunday, August 16, New Mt. Calvary will host the Inaugural Dr. Lonnie Dawson Legacy Brunch on Saturday, August 15, at 10 a.m. at The Grand Event Center in Long Beach.
The event will salute the legacy of the late Rev. Dr. Lonnie Dawson, NMC founding pastor, celebrate the continuing labor of his wife, First Lady Emeritus Mamie P. Dawson, and honor several founding members who contributed to the church’s stability and growth. Many ecumenical leaders, civic officials, and community members are expected to participate.
“As a visionary, educator, leader, and international missionary, Rev. Dr. Lonnie Dawson envisioned change, implemented action, and transformed lives,” said Pastor Sonja Dawson.
“More so, during his tenure, Dr. Dawson developed one of the largest Sunday School departments in Los Angeles and abroad, authored several books on Sunday School growth, and founded the Church Leadership Training Institute (C.L.T.I) of the LAX Urban Center (formerly known as Crescent Bay West Los Angeles Association),” she added.
The celebration continues on Sunday, August 16, at 7:30 a.m. and 10:45 a.m., with Founder’s Day recognizing Dr. Dawson’s 48-year ministry. The guest speaker will be the Rev. Dr. James C. Perkins, pastor of True Friendship Baptist Church in Inglewood.
