Covid-19 Is An Urgent Reminder That Food Insecurity Is a Pressing Problem

We knew many of our fellow Angelenos worked on the margins of the previously healthy economy, but that reality didn’t hit home until we saw reports that less than half of adults in Los Angeles County had a job post pandemic. We all probably had at least heard that minorities had worse health outcomes than white Americans, but perhaps that didn’t really register until statistics about the shockingly high death rates of black and Latinos from Covid-19 became reality.

At a breakfast gathering held at Dulan’s On Crenshaw soul food restaurant, Biden greeted, chatted and donned an apron and hat to serve meals to more than 60 people who attended the event on iconic Crenshaw Blvd., in South Los Angeles.  He outlined his reasons for running, saying that he wants “to restore the soul of the country,” and he also took time to take a shot at President Donald Trump, referring to Trump’s recent Twitter comments, which disparaged four Democratic congresswomen and stated that they should  “go back and help fix the totally broken and crime-infested places from which they came.”

The Los Angeles Urban League announced today that noted attorney and civic leader Michael Lawson has accepted the position as Interim President and CEO of the famed civil rights organizations Los Angeles Branch. Michael Lawson is not new to the Los Angeles Community and is well respected throughout both the business, political, philanthropic community here in Los Angeles and throughout the nation. Michael Lawson served as a partner at the international law firm Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flori, LLP in their New York and Los Angeles offices until he retired in 2011.
