Congresswoman Maxine Waters (CA-43) joined with Los Angeles Southwest College President, Dr. Seher Ahwan, administrators, faculty, and staff to virtually honor 130 students who earned the 2020 President’s Scholars recognition.
The non-profit research and policy organization is targeted towards the education surrounding predatory lending, a practice commonly directed towards minority communities. The virtual town hall, moderated by White House Correspondent and CNN Political Analyst April Ryan, focused primarily on the areas of small businesses, housing and student loans with a particular emphasis on minority and Black communities.

On March 19 and April 2, Congresswoman Waters conducted the first two in a series of 43rd District telephone town hall meetings that included approximately 19,000 and 15,000 local residents, respectively. Her calls featured presentations by the Los Angeles County Department of Health, the IRS, the Small Business Administration, all of the school districts in the 43rd District, LA Metro, LA Homeless Services Authority, LA Regional Food Bank, Legal Aid Foundation of Los Angeles, Watts Health Care, South Bay Family Health Clinic, and UMMA Community Clinic.
Upholding her promise, Congresswoman Maxine Waters held another telephone town hall meeting with Los Angeles residents to detail more facts regarding COVID-19. The phone call was held Thursday, April 2, 2020, with nearly 15K listeners on the line.
Los Angeles County District Attorney Jackie Lacey, despite controversy surrounding her campaign, overwhelmingly won reelection to her seat. Lacey said she wants to create more transparency in the office so that people will better understand what her job entails.
