Cal Attorney General Wants FDA Standards for Menthol Cigarettes Finalized

Last year, a version of the ordinance that exempted menthol cigarettes was opposed by Black council members Mark Ridley-Thomas, Marqueece Harris Dawson and Curren Price. They argued that studies have found Black Americans are the racial/ethnic group most likely to use menthol cigarettes and are 25 times more likely than White Americans to do so.

SEIU 2015 Rallies in Support of Higher Wages for Home Health Care Workers

Service Employees International Union (SEIU) 2015, representing over 400,000 nursing home and home care workers, gathered in front of the Los Angeles County Hall of Administration on April 19,  to advocate for higher pay and better working standards for their members. Hundreds of workers showed up to shout the rallying cry for the day, “It’s time for $20!”

Community Build Supports PlayLA Youth and Adaptive Sports Launch

Community Build, Inc. partnered with PlayLA on Saturday, Nov. 6 in Algin Sutton Park to launch the City’s Youth and Adaptive Sports Program.  Children and young adults enjoyed a day of sports adapted fun to meet varying mental and physical abilities and had the opportunity to meet some of L.A.’s Olympic and Paralympic athletes.  Community Build donated 100 food boxes and sponsored swimwear for Inclusion Matters’ aquatics programs.
