THE LEGACY OF BLACK EXCELLENCE CONTINUES TO SHINE WITH CONTINUED PRESIDENTIAL APPOINTMENTS

. Michael Drake, M.D. has just been appointed by the UC Regents to be the next president of the University of California system. His appointment will be effective August 1 of this year. Drake will become the first African American head of the UC system in its 152-year history. That’s a lot of glass to break in that ceiling, but the shattering of that threshold has reverberated throughout the higher education community, and certainly here in California. I want to join the chorus and shout with joy, even as I bear witness to similar Black excellence continuing to shine in California, and other parts of the nation as well.

Prince Hall Grand Lodge Plans 164th Communication

The Most Worshipful Prince Hall Grand Lodge, Free and Accepted Masons, State of California Inc., will convene its 164th Annual Communication in conjunction with the 136th Annual Communication of the Golden State Grand Chapter Order of the Eastern Star. The assembly will be held on Thursday, July 12, through Thursday, July 19, at the Marriott Los Angeles Airport Hotel, 5855 West Century Blvd., in Los Angeles. The Honorable Donald R.
