January 28 1970- Arthur Ashe, the first Black male to win Wimbledon, was denied entry to compete for the U.S. Team in the South African Open due to South Africa’s racial policies.   January 29 1954- Iconic talk show host, actress, filmmaker and billionaire Oprah Winfrey was born in Kosciusko, Mississippi.   January 30 1965- Major League Baseball Player Leroy Paige was named all-time outstanding player by National Baseball Congress.   January 31   1963- James Baldwin’s influential collection of essays “The Fire Next Time” was published.   Feb. 1 1974- Popular Black sitcom “Good Times” premiered on CBS.
