LEON T. GARR, one of seven children born to Eugene and Emma Garr, was raised in Lincoln Parish, Louisiana. He learned early on that life was to be handled with care.
Well known community figure Leon “Ted” Garr, passed away on Tuesday, December 5th at home with his family surrounded by his children and grandchildren. Garr was 103 years old.
The prolific career of businessman Leon “Ted” Garr will be permanently noted in South L.A., thanks to the efforts of the city’s three black council representatives. Council President Herb Wesson, Councilmember Curren Price and Councilmember Marqueece Harris-Dawkins united to designate the intersection of Vermont and Gage Avenues as Leon Garr Square.
