Councilmember’s Curren Price and Marqueece Harris-Dawson, Supervisor Holly Mitchell, and California Highway Patrol sponsor reward for information about the 16-year-old’s shooting death

The Los Angeles City Council and Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors have posted a combined $60,000 in reward money and the California Highway Patrol and State of California have added $50,000, for a total of $110,000, for information leading to the person or people responsible for the shooting death of a 16-year-old girl whose body was found dumped alongside the Harbor (110) Freeway.  

Creative Coalition of Color Members Hosts Careers in Entertainment Panel for BHERC Youth Diversity Film Festival

The Black Hollywood Education and Resource Center (BHERC), in partnership with the Creative Coalition of Color (CCC), have created an opportunity for entertainment professionals in film, marketing, entertainment advertising, and public relations communities to join a virtual panel to provide inside knowledge about diverse careers in the entertainment industry for youth.

Lura Daniels-Ball Elected President of Historic Our Authors Study Club, INC.

Los Angeles, CA (January 23, 2022) —The Our Authors Study Club, Inc of Los Angeles announced the election of the officers. Led by Lura Daniels-Ball, they will serve as the organization’s president for 2022. The full slate of officers includes Dr. Toni-Mokjaetji Humber as Vice President,  Haiba Payton-Franklin as Secretary, Paqueta Davis as Treasurer, and Ernestine Gordon as Historian. In December, the officers were sworn into their respective positions in a virtual program by Mike Davis, Los Angeles Commissioner of Public Works. Daniels-Ball is no stranger to the organization. She has been an avid supporter for more than 35 years.

Biden Nominates 3 to Fed Board, Including First Black woman

President Joe Biden will nominate three people for the Federal Reserve’s Board of Governors, including former Fed official Sarah Bloom Raskin for the top regulatory slot, and Lisa Cook, who would be the first Black woman to serve as a governor. 

Spike Lee to Receive DGA Lifetime Achievement Award

Spike Lee was named today the recipient of the Directors Guild of America’s Lifetime Achievement Award for Distinguished Achievement in Motion Picture Direction. The award is the top honor bestowed by the DGA for film directors.

Los Angeles Health Save and Downtown Crenshaw Give Away Organic Foods in Leimert Park

Every month, Since January 2021, the Los Angeles Health Save in partnership with Downtown Crenshaw came together to provide up to 100 bags of fresh organic and locally grown produce that included items such as sweet potatoes, cabbage, collards, kale, onions, garlic, organic apples, pears, oranges, green beans, mushrooms, bananas and more. The food was provided by LA Health Save to help Downtown Crenshaw provide organic groceries and meals to community members in the downtown Leimert Park area.
