The reinvented Los Angeles Lakers held Media Day at the UCLA Health Training Facility on Friday with the return of some familiar faces and a plethora of new ones. Two of the most recognizable faces were LeBron James, who returned for his second season in the purple and gold, and Anthony Davis, who was acquired in a blockbuster summer trade that sent the former Lakers’ young core to New Orleans.

As the Lakers faced the end of their season and their sixth straight failure to obtain a playoff spot, another startling announcement was made moments before that game was to commence. Shortly after Luke Walton’s last routine pregame press conference for the season on Tuesday, Johnson called for an impromptu press conference where it was assumed that many things would happen. Shockingly, what did happen was that his announcement that was stepping down from his role as president of basketball operations for the Lakers.

Lakers Kyle Kuzma Earns Rising Stars Challenge MVP

Los Angeles Lakers forward Kyle Kuzma recorded a game high of 35-point performance to go along with six rebounds as he earned MVP in the Rising Stars Challenge on Friday at Spectrum Center in Charlotte, North Carolina. Kuzma led Team USA to a 161-144 victory over Team World snapping a two-game losing streak.
