First Lady Dozier – Mother to More Than 100

Gardena resident Erma L. Dozier has been a mother to a hundred children, literally.She and her husband, Pastor Larry of The New Earth Christian Church (TNECC), have been foster parents the past 30 years. Along with their own two children, they’ve been parents to more than 100 children in their Gardena home. It was the First Lady’s idea to become foster parents. Hollypark United Methodist Church hosted the Dozier Singers Family & Friends (DSF) Black History concert on Feb. 16. During the program, DSF held a moment of silence to remember Kobe Bryant, and his daughter, Gianna, who perished along with seven others in a helicopter crash on Jan 26. Dozier Singers to Perform at Hollypark UMC Black History Celebration

                       Service will include unveiling of the Gwen Ifill Black Heritage Stamp Gardena Mayor Tasha Cerda and Gardena Postmaster Pam Smith-Cunningham will unveil the Gwen Ifill commemorative postage stamp during a gospel concert on Sunday, Feb. 16, at 4 p.m., at Hollypark United Methodist Church, 13000 S. Van Ness Ave. in Gardena. The U.S. Postal Service issued the Black Heritage Forever stamp in memory of Ifill, an African American woman who broke gender and racial barriers and became a role model for journalists. Dozier Appointed Pastor of St. John’s UMC

Gardena resident Larry Dozier has been appointed pastor of St. John’s United Methodist Church, 1715 Santa Ana St. North in Los Angeles. Los Angeles Area Episcopal Bishop Minerva Carcãno offered the assignment to Dozier to serve as spiritual leader of the 140-member congregation. “I was honored and pleasantly surprised to be considered,” said Dozier, who preached his first sermon at the church on July 3. United Methodist Men honor Lindo as ‘Man of the Year’

Author and theologian Dr. Osmond A. Lindo Sr., will be honored as ‘Man of the Year’ during the Fathers’ Day Dinner and Concert on Sunday, June 21, at 4 p.m., at Hollypark United Methodist Church, 13000 South Van Ness Avenue in Gardena. Dr. Lindo, author of the recently published book, ‘Real Men Read Jesus’ Parables’ will receive the award from the United Methodist Men of the Western Jurisdiction.
