Recognizing the Centennial of the 1921 Tulsa Race Massacre

The Tulsa Race Massacre is a prime example of inflaming issues and ignoring history. They both significantly lead to the inability and failure to learn the real lessons that true history can teach us. It was the inflammatory reporting of the chance encounter of a young Black man, Dick Rowland; and a young white elevator operator, Sarah Page, that ignited one of the deadliest episodes of racial violence in our nation’s history.

Holman UMC Hosts Annual Black College Summit

Holman United Methodist Church will present its Annual Black College Summit to acquaint high school seniors and community college transfer students with Historically Black College and Universities (HBCUs). The session will be held on Thursday, November 3, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., in Holman’s L.L. White Hall, 3320 West Adams Boulevard in Los Angeles. The Holman Bridges to HBCUs and Holman Community Development Corporation are sponsoring the event. The Rev. Kelvin Sauls is the host pastor. Admission directors and recruiters from several schools have been invited to attend including Bethune-Cookman, Clark Atlanta, Central State, Dillard, Fisk, Florida Memorial, Florida

Holman UMC hosts HBCU Summit

Holman United Methodist Church will hold its annual Historically Black College and University (HBCU) Summit to acquaint prospective high school and community college students with HBCU schools. The session will be held on Thursday, November 12, at 6 p.m., in Holman’s L.L. White Hall, 3320 West Adams Boulevard in Los Angeles.  The Rev. Kelvin Sauls is the host pastor. Representatives from Bennett College, Dillard University, Fisk University, Lincoln (MO) University, Philander Smith College, Stillman College, Talladega College, Tuskegee University and Wiley College will share information about their school and on the admissions process including the guaranteed admission agreements with all California Community Colleges.
