Words of the Week – Changing Times & Cold Hearts

One of my favorite musical groups is Earth, Wind & Fire and I grew up hearing their music all the time on the hi-fi. One particular album is a favorite of mine called “Raise!” and there is a song called “The Changing Times.” The first lyrics ring very true of today: “As you discover changing times, You must have the strength to endure.” We have been in the midst of changing times, but it is getting more evident, as times goes by, these days are getting darker. The shootings, bold racism and rampant homelessness are some of the prevailing signs

Words of the Week – The Wedding Dress

Are you a creative person? If so, then you know the creation process of making something from nothing. As a writer, I brood over a blank page to find the right words to bring a meaningful thought or idea to fruition. It’s not just a bunch of words thrown together. So, concerning creation versus evolution, which would you believe that best-selling author Stephen King accidentally knocked over some ink onto some paper and the splash formed into a best-selling novel; or rather that he purposefully toiled and skillfully wrote it? The Bible reads in Genesis 1:2, “And the earth was

Words of the Week – The Lord’s Bottom Line

We live in a confused world. You have to be careful what you say to everyone, because everyone is ready to attack you for what you just said. Huh? Yep! It’s a world full of camps and you don’t choose which one you belong to either — it’s chosen for you based on what you say, believe, think, act, etc. You think the man should be head of the household… you are a male *@!#%*! You are a caveman! The gay guy that works in accounting… what? First of all, he is a she! Her name is “Ivory!” OMG, are

Words of the Week – Being on One Accord with the Lord

The early church created an atmosphere for the Holy Spirit to manifest Himself   Christians, it’s time to change the contemporary church playbook. Yes, good preaching and good singing is well and good, but true worship must become top priority and intentional. If Sunday is the only time that we all seem to come together, then we must rethink our Sunday service. At least one Sunday per month, prior to arrival, we should consecrate ourselves and come prepared for worship. No set agenda, just allow the Holy Spirit (the third person of the Trinity) to have His way, so that

Words of the Week – You Look Like a Christian

You get up, get dressed, and sit in the pew and say, “Amen,” “Praise the Lord,” “Hallelujah” and all the other appropriate responses Christians give during the worship service. You go to Sunday School or Sabbath school; you stay for the main service or go to all of them because you love church so much. Church members can count on you to help out at the church picnic, feeding the homeless and passing out literature. You are respected and maybe even revered for your unwavering faith, giving tithes, helping out — you are just an amazing child of God. It

Ask Dr. Jeanette, Success On “The Way”: “Nooo Failure. Only Encouragement”

The boisterous voice thunders, “Defeat! Fear! Believe naysayers!” The voice wants to lead you to believe in gloom, doom. Don’t listen. That’s not “the” voice. It’s false and misleading, seeking to deceive; the voice that says, “give up.” We never give up! Never. Never. Never. We listen to the voice of hope; the voice of “I can do it,” the voice of perseverance. There is strength inside you that propels you to and through your mission, dream and destiny. Your inside voice dictates, “Yes. I can do it!” Some persons are only happy when they seek to hurt others. Their

Reflection: The Good, They Do Die Young!

Dr. Martin Luther King Died 51 Years Ago. Nipsey Hussle died March 31, 2019. This morning when I got to work, a conversation ensued about the murder of rapper Nipsey Hussle on March 31. I did not know much about him, but the younger people cited all the good things that the Grammy-nominee and former gang member had done for the community in which he grew up, and where he continued to invest his time and fortune. When one person asked the question, “Why do those who do good get killed?” my mind immediately went to the Rev. Dr. Martin

Words of the Week – It’s a Big Deal to God

You took the high road, made a sacrificial choice, and seemed to lose while the other person played dirty – was unfair, dishonest, and deceitful, and consequently benefitted from it. I’m talking about evil behavior that drained your pocketbook; the kind of mischief that made you weep – lies, plots and fabrications that caused you repeated sleepless nights on your therapeutic mattress. This is such a big deal to God that He wrote about it in the Bible. Have you ever wondered why God instructs us to not be envious of the prosperity or the advancement of the wicked (Psalms 37:9)?
