Vendors and Attendees express excitement for the Taste of Soul’s in-person return

Good vibes and energy permeated Saturday’s, October 15, Taste of Soul event which is probably what caused the rain and clouds that filled the sky earlier that morning to disappear. The free family street festival took place on the historic Crenshaw Blvd. and attracted thousands of people from all over to enjoy food, music, performances, and much more. The event took place virtually for the past two years because of the Covid-19 pandemic.

The Impact of COVID-19 on HBCUs and Black Students

In March 2020, when college campuses across the country closed and sent students home, many HBCUs continued to house hundreds of students who did not have homes to return to. Groups of students were stuck on campus without the funds to pay for transportation back to their home cities. This challenge was a byproduct of several students losing the jobs they used to help fund their education, along with loss of family income. Many students became both food and housing insecure without the critical resources that HBCUs often provide.

COVID-19 Update: FDA Outlines Inspection and Assessment Activities During Pandemic

Today, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration issued a new report titled, “Resiliency Roadmap for FDA Inspectional Oversight,” outlining the agency’s inspectional activities during the COVID-19 pandemic and its detailed plan to move toward a more consistent state of operations, including the FDA’s priorities related to this work going forward.

Los Angeles City Mayor Announces ‘SERVE’ Initiative; $800 Grant Available for 4,000 Employees Affected by COVID-19 in the Restaurant Industry

There are new adjustments to the working sector that the mayor outlined, the mayor noted that four out of ten people already lost their jobs this year. Garcetti stated, “ With limited federal support, and the County Public Health Department new orders about outdoor dining, the city must step up to provide relief to restaurants, so tonight I can announce the launch of Secure emergency relief for vulnerable employees.”  This fund is open to a plethora of eateries including wineries and food trucks.
