L.A. Churches Present Mini-Homes to Skid Row Homeless

On Thursday, August 12, Yes We Can! Worship Center, led by Pastor Sherman D. Manning, and McCoy Memorial Baptist Church, headed by Dr. R.A. Williams, teamed up to sponsor Homes 2 Go. The event, which featured the presentation of five miniature homes to a group of unhoused people, was held at the Union Rescue Mission in downtown Los Angeles. The mini Homes 2 Go was invented by 17-year-old, Jordan Szigeti-Larenne of Orange County, who designed and built the mobile home prototype to provide shelter and privacy for people living on the street. This is a Tribute: We Remember Iris Marie Laurent Stanford

Iris Stanford worked in the Classified section department for the Sentinel for over two decades and over that time, she became the heart of a community. She served as the Classifieds Specialist for the Sentinel and L.A. Watts Times Newspaper. Anyone who did business, whether it was a DBA, an ad, or renting a room—you went to Iris.  In many ways, she was the mother of the Sentinel office, checking you when needed, loving on you always and laughing with you all the time.

Councilmember Harris-Dawson Launches Meal Program to Support South L.A Seniors and Small Businesses During COVID-19

City Councilmember Marqueece Harris-Dawson launched an emergency program to provide free healthy meals to homebound seniors during the COVID-19 pandemic. This crisis presents a crucible for leaders and requires quick strategic thinking to preserve our communities.  The councilmember launched this innovative program to divert funding from community events that were canceled due to COVID-19, and support two highly vulnerable populations during the pandemic: homebound seniors; as well as small business owners and their employees.
