Brookins-Kirkland AME Shows Appreciation to Pastor Minor

Brookins–Kirkland Community AME Church saluted the spiritual and executive leadership of Pastor Mary S. Minor during an appreciation service on October 15. The theme was “Our Pastor Shows Love Still Works” based on I Corinthians 13:1-13. The Steward and Trustee Boards sponsored the program. Pastor Darryl Walker and the members of New Philadelphia Church were the special guests. The pastor’s family also attended the service. In addition, Minor took time to recognize Trustee Willie Mayes (right) on his recent appointment as an air traffic controller for the Federal Aviation Administration.

Brookins-Kirkland Community AME Church will hold a Community Health Fair on Saturday, August 26, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., at 3719 West Slauson Ave., in Los Angeles. Free blood pressure, blood sugar, cardiovascular, dental and confidential HIV screenings will be available along with giveaways and important information, said Pastor Mary S. Minor. “We invite the public to bring your entire family to this free event and take the opportunity to get the status of your health,” said Minor. Brookins-Kirkland Community AME Church will be among the L.A.-area ministries hosting the First Ladies Health Day on Sunday, March 26, in their edifice at 3719 W. Slauson Ave., in Los Angeles. The event, part of the First Ladies Health Initiative sponsored by Walgreen’s, promotes wellness in underserved communities by providing free health screenings and medical tests to detect preventable chronic illnesses — such as diabetes, hypertension, obesity, hepatitis as well as various forms of cancer. Brookins-Kirkland will be one of the local sites partnering with health professionals and volunteers including Walgreens pharmacists, AltaMed, the Alzheimer’s Association, the American Diabetes Association,
