Brookins-Kirkland Community AME Church will be among the L.A.-area ministries hosting the First Ladies Health Day on Sunday, March 26, in their edifice at 3719 W. Slauson Ave., in Los Angeles.

The event, part of the First Ladies Health Initiative sponsored by Walgreen’s, promotes wellness in underserved communities by providing free health screenings and medical tests to detect preventable chronic illnesses — such as diabetes, hypertension, obesity, hepatitis as well as various forms of cancer.

Brookins-Kirkland will be one of the local sites partnering with health professionals and volunteers including Walgreens pharmacists, AltaMed, the Alzheimer’s Association, the American Diabetes Association, CareMore, Cedars-Sinai, City of Hope, and Susan G. Komen®.

The Rev. Dr. Mary S. Minor is the pastor of Brookins-Kirkland Community AME Church. Dr. Vanessa Gavin-Headen and Dr. William Releford are chairs of the church’s Health Commission.

For information, call the church office at (323) 296-5610.
