It was three years ago that a group of national business leaders launched a movement called Black Wealth 2020 partially based on the economic vision articulated by Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. King said in his final speech on April 3, 1968: “It’s all right to talk about streets flowing with milk and honey, but God has commanded us to be concerned about the slums down here and his children who can’t eat three square meals a day. It’s all right to talk about the new Jerusalem, but one day, God’s preacher must talk about the new New York, the new Atlanta, the new Philadelphia, the new Los Angeles, the new Memphis, Tennessee.”

In a joint statement, BW4PC National co-chairs Dr. Stephanie Myers and Daun S. Hester stated, “We must convince youth that dropping out of school is a pipeline to prison and violence. They must stay in school and earn their high school diploma or GED to prepare for success.”

Under the previous director, billions of dollars were returned to consumers for a host of illegal and deceptive acts by predatory financial institutions. These achievements were accomplished with the support of a dedicated staff.

Federal Lawsuit Challenges HUD to Enforce Fair Housing Rule Civil Rights and Housing Advocates Join Forces

Across the country, an estimated $5.5 billion in HUD funding is awarded each year. Nearly two-thirds of these funds go to approximately 1,210 grantees through HUD’s Community Development Block (CDBG) Grant program.  With this year’s rule suspension and continuing for several years, grant recipients – largely state and local government jurisdictions — can obligate their allocations without any concern for compliance with the Fair Housing Act rule.

WHAT:            U.S.VETS celebrates its 25th Anniversary at its first veteran’s facility in Inglewood. Highlighting the Memorial Day event will be the renaming of U.S.VETS LA to U.S.VETS INGLEWOOD.   Celebrating 25 years of service in the Inglewood Neighborhood of Los Angeles, the Memorial Day / Weekend event will host political dignitaries and special guests.
