South L.A. Residents Testify Before Redistricting Commission

The comments were delivered at the latest public hearing that the commission hosted as part of the redistricting process, which requires that the boundaries of council districts be redrawn following each census and that each district be approximately equal in size.

“If we are to create a more inclusive, equitable and just society, we must listen to our young people. This moment is eerily familiar to when I learned that Martin Luther King, Jr. had been assassinated on April 4, 1968. As the first Black student body president at Morningside High School in Inglewood, I refused to let the movement die with him so I organized a rally in the auditorium where we mourned with the world and made a promise to carry out his mission. Here we are again, decades later, at a monumental moment in our history and on the precipice of another impending breakthrough being led by our collective force of people from all walks of life and every color of the rainbow.”  

Positive Results Corp. Annual Purple Purse Tea Party Honors Supervisor Mark Ridley-Thomas With Champion of Peace Award

The Positive Results Corporation Honored Supervisor Mark Ridley-Thomas with the Champion of Peace Award at its fourth annual awards dinner and fundraiser. The dinner was held at the Carson Community Center on Sunday, October 27. Raising money for the foundation, over three hundred guests enjoyed music, dancing, and a silent auction. The afternoon ended with a panel discussing surviving domestic violence.

In Celebration of South LA Mothers

More than 1,300 beaming women of all backgrounds and ages gathered for a special Mother’s Day celebration, hosted by Councilman Curren Price, Council President Herb J. Wesson Jr. and Councilmember Marqueece Harris-Dawson on May 13 at the LA Convention Center in the 9th District.
