Los Angeles County Board Supervisor Chairman Mark Ridley-Thomas outlined the path for progress to ensure permanent housing for those who are experiencing homelessness, during a press conference on Tuesday, August 22.
Councilmember Harris-Dawson gave a special presentation recognizing the significance of Caribbean heritage. During his presentation, Hollywood Carnival performers surprised the audience in stunning costumes and danced to Caribbean music. Lunch was provided by Derrick’s Jamaican Cuisine, a local South LA restaurant.
Pastor Mary S. Minor and the members of Brookins-Kirkland Community AME Church (BKCAMEC) dedicated their new edifice on Dec. 4. The joyous service featured a sermon Bishop Clement W. Fugh, presiding prelate of the 5th Episcopal District of the AME Church and retired Bishop Theodore Larry Kirkland, Sr., the first pastor of Brookins. Also, the church received congratulations from U.S. Congresswoman Maxine Waters, retired U.S. Congresswoman Diane Watson on behalf of U.S. Congresswoman Karen Bass, 8th District Councilman Marqueece Harris-Dawson and District Director Sydney Kamlager-Dove on behalf State Senator Holly Mitchell.
