Bethany Baptist Holds Thanksgiving Giveaway

More than 120 families received a complete dinner at the annual Thanksgiving Giveaway sponsored by Bethany Baptist Church of West Los Angeles and the Baldwin Bethany Community Development Corporation. The outreach event, held Nov. 18 on the church campus, was presented in collaboration with Dr. George McKenna and LAUSD District 1, which selected students and families from Coliseum, Audubon, Hillcrest, and Baldwin Hills schools to receive food boxes filled with turkey, dressing and other ingredients for a full holiday meal. City Council Votes to Change Rodeo Rd. to Obama Blvd

The motion to rename Rodeo Road between Jefferson Boulevard and Arlington Avenue was introduced by Council President Herb Wesson, who recalled meeting Obama for the first time during an early campaign stop at Rancho Cienega Park on Rodeo Road in 2007.

Korean American and African American Leaders hold 4/29 Unity Event

Commemoration recognized 25th anniversary of 1992 L.A. Civil Unrest First AME Church of Los Angeles (FAME) and the Korean American Federation of Los Angeles (KAFLA) co-sponsored a 4/29 Unity Event on April 29 to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the city’s 1992 civil unrest. The program, held at FAME’s Allen House Gardens, featured unifying remarks from L.A.’s Black and Korean leaders that illustrated the vastly improved relationship between the African American and Korean American communities.
