Mayor Aja Brown, the City of Compton and over 10,000 parade spectators welcomed home 2016 multiple Grammy nominee rapper Kendrick Lamar as the grand marshal of the 63rd Annual Compton Christmas Parade held Saturday, December 12. Thousands lined Compton Boulevard between Bullis Road and Alameda Street to catch a glimpse of the Compton native who rode in a 1964 Chevrolet Impala with his fiancé Whitney Alford by his side stopping at one point to tell the the crowd “Compton is number one!”

Showing that the city of Compton is still on the move, Mayor Aja Brown and city officials celebrated the grand opening of a 2,060-square-foot full-service Chase Bank in the Hub City. Compton Mayor Aja Brown Invited Back to White House to Share Ideas on Boosting the Middle Class

Compton Mayor Aja Brown was invited back to the White House recently to participate in a discussion on legislative priorities aimed at helping to make the American middle class stronger. She was one of 27 state and local elected officials to attend the meeting. Topics discussed ranged from issues such as paid sick and family leave in all states, minimum wage increases in communities around the country and the President initiative called “My Brother’s Keeper”, a national call to action to close opportunity gaps faced by young people, including young men of color.

Undefeated College Wrestler Could Win Fourth National Championship

Notre Dame College senior wrestler and Compton native Joey Davis is on the verge of making history. He has gone undefeated during his entire collegiate career, leaving him with a 110-0 career record and a 38-0 record last season. Davis’ efforts also earned him three NCAA National Championships in Division II wrestling, according Notre Dame College. Plane crashes in residential area in Compton

At approximately 2:40 p.m. on Wed., Oct. 7 a single-engine airplane took off from Compton/Woodley Airport with one passenger. The plane was in the air for a few minutes before it experienced engine failure.
