DESTINATION WATTS THEN AND NOW

 Watts is a historic place. It’s where oppressed people from the Deep South and, more recently, from around the world, have come to start a new life in fabled California. They fled the remnants of slavery, Jim Crow, the Klu Klux Klan, lynchings, and corrupt political and legal systems. They fled oppression and political exclusion and came with great hope in search of a new life. 

CDU and APLA Health Host Rare ‘Indoor Ground Breaking’ On New Health Facility

Charles R. Drew University of Medicine and Science (CDU) and APLA Health (APLA) officially announced plans to move forward on a new building located on the CDU campus that would house a new CDU Wellness Center and an APLA clinic during a symbolic “indoor ground breaking” ceremony on Wednesday, December 4, 2019. Plans for the upcoming 10,000 square-foot facility were formalized with a signed agreement between the two organizations in February 2019.

Charles R. Drew and L.A. County Collaborate on a New Psychiatry Residency Program

The Charles R. Drew University of Medicine and Science (CDU) and the County of Los Angeles Department of Health Services have collaborated on an innovative medical residency program designed to address one of the most important yet under the radar issues affecting south Los Angeles residents: effective culturally-appropriate mental health treatment.
