BBA Salutes Black Women, Honors Gwen Moore

The theme was “Valiant Women of the Vote: Refusing to be Silenced.” Elected officials, business executives and community leaders were among the people joining BBA President Earl “Skip” Cooper II in recognizing Moore and other females who have contributed to securing women’s rights in America. Gwendolyn A. Goodman, public relations director of the Black Women’s Network, was the emcee for the occasion.

The Congressional Black Caucus Foundation, Inc. (CBCF) recently held its 48thConference in Washington DC. For the first time in the foundation’s history, two senators — Senator Cory Booker (New Jersey) and Senator Kamala D. Harris (California) served as honorary co-chairs for the 48th Annual Legislative Conference (ALC). Historically, co-chairs have been members of the U.S. House of Representatives.

SoCal 1st Business and Professional Women Celebrate 50th Anniversary

The Church of God in Christ Southern California First Jurisdiction’s Business and Professional Women (BPW) will celebrate the 50th anniversary of BPW’s 1968 elevation to a COGIC national auxiliary. BPW will also salute the appointment of its first president and chairwoman, the late Bessie Christian of Southern California First, and the late Gladys Yizar, as secretary. The celebration will be held during the Annual Personal Development Conference on Saturday, May 19, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., at the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel and Resort, 6161 Centinela Ave., in Culver City.  The ticket donation is $40.
