The Rev. G. Mansfield Collins made a huge footprint during his nearly 102 years of life. His impact was clearly apparent as hundreds filled the sanctuary of Bryant Temple AME Church to salute Collins’ legacy. During an uplifting memorial service on Oct. 10, Collins’ enduring love for God, family and community was celebrated through music, reflections and presentations.

Bryant Temple Offers Mother’s Day Tribute to Shelter Residents

Bryant Temple AME Community Development Corporation (CDC) will host a Mother’s Day tribute on Saturday, May 8, for the women currently living in its shelter. According to Pastor Dwaine A. Jackson, “The event is the second opportunity for shelter residents to enjoy good food and fellowship in a safe, secure setting. The previous event took place last October in a supportive atmosphere that offered the women a sense that the community backed their efforts to rebuild their lives.” Since Fall 2019, the CDC has operated the women’s shelter at its West Vernon Avenue location. U.S. Rep. Lee and Rev. Dr. Oden Unite in Marriage

The Rev. Dr. Clyde W. Oden and U.S. Congresswoman Barbara Lee united in holy matrimony during a ceremony on Dec. 31. Oden, who retired in 2019 as pastor of Bethel AME Church in Oxnard, served many years as the pastor of Bryant Temple AME Church in L.A. and was a former CEO/president of United Health Care. He was widowed in 2016. Lee has served 11 terms representing Oakland and the East Bay in the House of Representatives.
