Newsom Pardons `Bill’ Burwell, 1960s CSUN Activist
Gov. Gavin Newsom has signed a posthumous pardon for William “Bill” Burwell, an influential student activist on the Cal State Northridge campus in the 1960s and a founding member of the Black Student Union and the Department of Afro-American (now Africana) Studies, CSUN officials said Saturday, March 30.

Nelson is one of 15 finalists from across the world in the annual Breakthrough Junior Challenge competition. Nelson is in the running to receive $400,000 worth of prizes, including a college scholarship and a new science lab for her school.
L.A. Teen Donates Time and Talents to ‘Give Back’ to her Community
She’s a member of the school’s Viking Ambassadors, Associate Student Body, Black Student Union and yearbook staff. She mentors middle school students by participating in TAKS Leadership group as well as teaching them math and science in her role as a Stem Summit Leader. For several years, Chloe has been a serious athlete, devoting time to soccer, volleyball and track and field.

Initially, senior Dominique Allen intended to only play basketball for Los Angeles High School. During her years there, she decided to compete in track and field and volleyball and developed a fondness for them.

LACES senior Tyrah Lacy has never been afraid to speak up, she is a tenacious captain of the girls’ volleyball team and a learned leader at her high school. Since the age of 13, Lacy has been dedicated to playing volleyball and started as a middle blocker.

Senior linebacker Q’marr Allen is using his voice to create change at Los Angeles High School. Not only is Allen a captain of the football team, but he is a leader in different ways on campus.

“I don’t know why everyone is stressing, we are going to win this game,” UCLA sophomore Kinsley Washington continued to reassure her teammates during game two of the Women’s Softball World Series (WSWS). The Bruins were battling against the Oklahoma Sooners for the national title and had defeated them 16-3 in game one of the three-game series.
CSUF’s Male Success Initiative Department Empowers Men of Color to Reach Their Full Potential
In 2016, California State University Fullerton (CSUF) joined the CSU fight to support men of color by bridging the higher education achievement gap and increasing graduation and retention rates through its Male Success Initiative (MSI) Department.
