Kevin Steele, the prosecutor who put legendary actor and comedian Bill Cosby, 84, in jail in 2018, has filed an appeal to the United States Supreme Court to reinstate Cosby’s conviction.
“The news that the Pennsylvania State Parole Board has denied parole is not a surprise to Mr. Cosby, his family, his friends, and his legal team,” Cosby’s spokesman Andrew Wyatt said in a statement. “It was brought to our attention by Mr. Cosby that over the past months, members of the PA State Parole Board had met with him and empathically stated, ‘if he did not participate in SVP courses that his parole would be denied,’” Wyatt continued.
Cosby’s lawyers remain convinced that since Montgomery County District Attorney Kevin Steele invited the testimony of five women who allegedly had encounters with Cosby in the 1980s, there was no reason to bring up the comedian’s alleged behavior from the 1970s.
In the new petition, filed on Thursday, January 9, 2020, Cosby’s lawyers also want the high court to consider the impact of the #MeToo movement and what they said is “public hysteria,” which influenced the prosecution and outcome.
Now, as he awaits an appellate court’s ruling that could grant him a new trial or freedom, Cosby’s support base appears more significant than at any point since charges were filed against him nearly four years ago.

When O’Neill ruled that Castor couldn’t testify on behalf of Cosby because the judge claimed the former DA was “not credible,” Castor said he viewed that as an attempt to hurt him publicly and it was a measure of political and professional payback.
