On March 12, Compton Mayor Aja Brown’s Healthy Compton initiative will kick off a free 90-Day Community Fitness Challenge. Healthy Compton is a citywide fitness initiative created by Mayor Brown aimed to increase physical activity and promote a healthy lifestyle for anyone who lives, plays, or works in Compton.
The Compton City Council has voted 5-0 to authorize a $25,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of whoever was responsible for killing 1-year-old Autumn Johnson, and the total reward is expected to soon rise to $75,000. The vote by the Compton City Council came on February 16, when Compton Mayor Aja Brown announced that Los Angeles County Supervisor Mark Ridley-Thomas and the FBI both plan to match the city’s reward. Thousands lined Compton Boulevard between Bullis Road and Alameda Street to catch a glimpse of the Compton native who rode in a 1964 Chevrolet Impala with his fiancé Whitney Alford by his side stopping at one point to tell the the crowd “Compton is number one!”
