Census Committee Reaching out to California’s ‘Hard to Count’ Population

Members of the California Complete Count Committee met in Sacramento June 4, to discuss their statewide outreach and communication strategy for 2020, keeping with their mission of getting everyone counted and connected to appropriate resources. The official Census count will begin April 1 of next year, and the committee wants to ensure they reach everyone, especially those who are “hard to count,” they said. Those include immigrant renters, children under 5 and those living below the poverty line.

“he census must be conducted in a way that will not thwart the goal of equal representation,” wrote U.S. District Judge Paul Grimm, in an opinion granting in part and denying a motion to dismiss brought by the Census Bureau. The ruling allows the case to proceed to discovery and potentially to trial.

Census Bureau Begins Jobs Recruiting Effort for 2020 Census

The 2020 Census Jobs website allows applicants to apply for a range of positions, including recruiting assistants, office operations supervisors, clerks, census field supervisors and census takers. The positions will be located across 248 Area Census Offices nationwide and offer flexible work hours, including daytime, evenings and weekends.
