The Taste of Soul vendor is looking forward to meeting TOS Nation from behind the grill.

Coming to a Taste of Soul (TOS) near you, which will be on Saturday, October 19, on Crenshaw Blvd, is another pitmaster throwing his BBQ in the ring.

Kelvin Brown is the owner and executive pitmaster of Smoked n’ Blazed BBQ. Taste of Soul has a love affair with BBQ and has seen many a vendor bring their A-game to the grill. Brown is ready to smoke and blaze the competition all in loving fun for BBQ.

“I was born in Compton, CA and raised all over Los Angeles and L.A. County, but my family is from South Central,” said Brown. He attended Narbonne High School, El Camino and West L.A. Community College where he majored in computer technology. Brown shared that he always had a love for being behind the grill.

“I would always man the grill for my grandfather when he would cook us ribs in the summer,” said Brown. “It wasn’t until I purchased my first smoker in 2022 that I realized my passion for BBQ.”

He continued, “I would always watch BBQ shows and YouTube videos until I built up the courage to try smoking BBQ for myself. I would spend hours-on-hours practicing my craft until I felt like it was good enough to share.”

He got positive feedback from family and the community about his skills with the grill, but it wasn’t until a Juneteenth event that he realized he had something here.

“I was a part of the Bryant Temple AME Church Juneteenth event, where I got my first break,” said Brown. “I’m not sure what really sets me apart, I just know I want to be a part of the L.A. and California BBQ renaissance that’s currently happening and want to add my contributions to this BBQ industry.”

The public will get a chance to taste his contributions as Brown will be bringing Texas style smoked BBQ to this year’s Taste of Soul.

Brown has been a part of TOS Nation having attended the festival in the past. Now he gets to experience it in a whole new way.

“Me and my family always attend the Taste of Soul every year,” said Brown. “It was only right for me to participate as a vendor and finally get a chance to experience the TOS from the other side and not as a patron.”

Do you want some good BBQ? Are you ready to smoke and blaze those taste buds? Then make sure to attend the 19th Annual Taste of Soul Family Festival on Saturday, October 19, on Crenshaw Blvd. Smoked n’ Blazed BBQ will be there waiting for you.
