Beatrice Rhae Nelson (Weaver) was born in 1934, a product of Waco, TX. She was the third child of Elijah Bowman Weaver and Pearl Spratt Weaver. Her childhood home was a safe and secure base where her imagination and individuality were supported by her community and she was exposed to a variety of interests. A devout believer at an early age, Beatrice accepted Christ at Belmont Baptist Church in Waco, TX. Her parents, siblings, and relatives encouraged and supported Beatrice’s desire to further her education and her involvement in the community because she had a desire to service
Brenda Harris, an outspoken advocate and civil servant who influenced state education policy, died after a brief illness. She was 71.
Leo Hill. Sr., who contributed to improving opportunities for African Americans in the greater Los Angeles area and in corporate America, passed away on March 6 at the age of 84.

Born with activism in her blood, Gwendolyn Florence Green, was created to lead with Love. At three pounds this baby girl came into the world on April 22, 1925, in Oakland California. Her parents, Rosalie and Edward Smith, along with her grandparents were involved in numerous community organizations, trade unions and churches in determination to improve the lives of African Americans in their community.
Traci Braxton, an R&B singer and the star of WE tv’s television show “Braxton Family Values,” has died, according to her husband Kevin Surrat.
Businessman and philanthropist Ed Lara passed away recently at the age of 91. A community leader and entrepreneur, Lara and his wife were owner-operators of Westside Distributors in Los Angeles.
Michael Stephen Jones, 66, former president and CEO of the Crenshaw Chamber of Commerce, died on February 5 from leukemia. Throughout his life, he worked to make his community better.

Dr. William Rolfe Weathers, 83 years of age, died on December 9, 2021, in Los Angeles. William was born at Homer G. Phillips Hospital on October 5, 1938, in St. Louis, Missouri, the third of four siblings born to Dr. Henri Weathers II and Alice Mae Gentry Weathers.
