Spring cleaning?  Come join Mothers In Action, Taste of Soul and our community partners on March 24, 2018 at our 5th Annual community Cleanup/Recycling Event to shred all of your confidential/sensitive documents and recycle electronics and other listed unwanted items.

The event allows members of the community to drive-thru only and unload listed electronics, tires, unwanted materials and household hazardous waste without leaving the convenience of their car at no cost to them. This year’s partners include: The Taste of Soul, The Los Angeles Sentinel Newspaper, LA Watts Times,  Assemblyman Reggie Jones-Sawyer, Supervisor Mark Ridley-Thomas, Los Angeles Council President Herb Wesson, Copy City, Los Angeles Sanitation, Public Works, LA Conservation Corps, City National Bank, Shred-It USA, ECWA, the Ladies of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated (Alpha Gamma Omega Chapter), Holman United Methodist Church, and Denny’s.  Empowerment Congress West Area Neighborhood Development Council (ECWA) is once again, the proud sponsor of the free shredding services for this highly anticipated event.

Some of the items that are allowed are: medications; syringes; sharps; fuels; gasoline; motor oil; oil filters; lubricants; antifreeze; solvents; paint thinners; tires (limit nine); aerosol cans; paints; stains; pesticides; herbicides; glues; adhesives, fluorescent light bulbs; mercury thermometers; fire extinguishers; compressed gas tanks and propane tanks; electronics.

Some of the items that are not allowed are: containers over five gallons in size, ammunition and explosives, asbestos materials, PCB related materials, biological waste, radioactive waste, construction waste, fireworks and marine flairs, bulky items, furniture.

 

“It takes a village to make a difference in our community and we are honored to have all of these entities as a part of our village,” said Mothers In Action President Tracy Mitchell.

This free recycling event will be held in front of the Los Angeles Sentinel Newspaper, waste disposal is from 9:00am- 3:00pm and paper shredding services are only from 9:00am – 12:30pm. The line starts at Bronson and Coliseum. There is a (2) – 33 gallon trash bag limit per person of items to shred.
