On Friday, June 8, Los Angeles City Council President Herb Wesson and 8th District Councilmember Marqueece Harris Dawson held their 2nd Annual Our Pride Celebration in honor of June as Gay Pride Month. Held at the Baldwin Hills Crenshaw Mall, the event was attended by hundreds of Black lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender South L.A. residents. This year’s honorees included Panamanian transgender icon Ebony Lane and Jewel Thais-Williams, owner of the legendary Catch One Club and Village Health Foundation. The event was emceed by well-known Black LGBT advocate and media commentator Jasmyne Cannick.
