Mika’s Catering Service is bringing back the perfect finger food to the festival
I love a good egg roll. I could build a whole meal around the finger food all by itself.
Mika’s Catering Service will be bringing her gourmet egg rolls to Taste of Soul (TOS) once again on Saturday, October 19. I have mostly stuck to the Asian style egg roll and have had a couple of variations here and there. What Mika’s Catering is bringing to TOS—I think we’re going to have to show up family because they sound good.
“I started making eggrolls for the fun of it,” said owner and founder of Mika’s Catering Service, Shimikia Hagins.
She is the third oldest of 20 children and originally from Watts. Hagins attended 102nd St. Elementary, Markham Jr. High School and Jordan High School.

“I love to cook,” said Hagins. “When I was 5-years-old, I used to be in the kitchen with my mom cooking some good meals for my siblings.
“Cooking is a therapy for me.”
Established in 2018, Mika’s Catering Service started rolling out gourmet egg rolls as they were a hit with everyone.
“I just come up with ingredients,” said Hagins. “I cook for family and friends and started making different type of egg rolls and letting my coworkers try them—they even came up with different ones for me to make.
Hagins started taking orders and her catering business was born. This will be her second time as a vendor at TOS. She shared a little about her first TOS experience and why she is back this year.
“At first I was scared, but it was a great experience, that’s why I decided to come back this year,” said Hagins.
This year, Mika’s Catering Service is bringing their famous and most popular egg rolls which includes Southwestern Turkey, Beefy Beef Chili Cheese Pastrami and Veggies Eggrolls.
“We also will be serving up some banana pudding cups and my new strawberry pudding pound cake cups,” said Hagins.
TOS is the perfect place for Hagins and her egg rolls but also, because she loves TOS Nation.
“I love being around good people,” said Hagins. “I am a peoples’ person and not afraid of criticism.
“That makes me different from others.”
