The Gospel Music Workshop of America – L.A. Chapter will hold its ‘Back To The Old Landmark’ concert on Sunday, Feb. 9, at 4 p.m., at the People’s Independent Church of Christ, 5856 West. Blvd., in Los Angeles.
The annual event features regional and nationally-known gospel vocalists and musicians as well as recognizes contributors to the endurance of the genre, said the Rev. Calvin B. Rhone, chapter representative.
“This year, we went outside the circle of singers, musicians, songwriters and directors to select our honorees,” said Rhone. “We will salute several people who have peripherally served and supported the ministry and legacy of gospel music.”
The honorees are John Falzarano, a recording engineer and CEO of Studio on Wheels; Cora Jackson-Fossett, L.A. Sentinel religion editor and staff writer; the Curtiss Family, owners of Word of Life Christian Bookstore; and GMWA ushers Anthony C. Jones, David McCall and Barbara Allen.
In addition, special tributes are planned to acknowledge the ground-breaking musical contributions of the Soul Stirrers, the Roberta Martin Singers, The Caravans, the Clara Ward Singers and Brother Joe May.
“We welcome the greater Los Angeles community to join us for this free celebration of gospel music,” added Rhone.
