Erika Degraffinreaidt commands attention with her confident voice and disciplined approach to acting. “I get up at 4:30 a.m. every single day,” she says. Raised in Markham, Illinois, and thriving in Los Angeles, she brings a rich, textured background to her performances. “When somebody says this is what they do, you have to dedicate your whole core to it.”

Her six-year acting journey began after leaving a successful career as a stylist. She worked as a costumer for the TV series “Ozark” and as a wardrobe supervisor on the short film “The Coming of Age.”

As a behind-the-camera specialist, she traveled the world, refined her eye for detail, and gained invaluable exposure to the industry’s inner workings. “When I stepped into being an actress, it’s like everything started to make sense. I finally found my purpose,” she shared.

With appearances in BET’s “American Gangster: Trap Queens” and Comedy Central’s “Addiction Busters,” her performances caught the attention of casting directors and audiences. “If they say, ‘oh, Erika, we need you to cry on cue,’ I can do that,” she said, crediting her training at New York’s Stella Adler Studio of Acting for teaching her how to access emotional depths.

Her ability to inhabit characters with authenticity has positioned her as a standout in dramatic roles. “I love dramas,” she explains. I love the conversation piece that it could potentially start. We need to start conversations. We need to be brought together again to show we are more alike than we are different.”

Although known for her dramatic flair, Erika loves new challenges. Her upcoming feature film marks a departure as she steps into a comedic lead role. “It’s going to be interesting for people to see me in a comedic role,” she said, teasing a fresh and lighter side to her on-screen presence. But for Degraff, it’s about expanding and showing versatility. Angela Bassett’s career has served as a guiding light for Erika. “I’ve modeled my career after her. She’s the epitome of class and integrity, and she’s never felt the need to take on stereotypical roles.”

Erika emphasized the importance of treating acting as a business. From creating her own PR kits to maintaining her website and reels, she has taken full ownership of her career, ensuring she is always ready to pitch herself. “Who can speak me up better than I can?” she asked, highlighting her proactive approach.

“This is a business. You can be the most beautiful person, and you have the most talent, But if you don’t know how to work that in as a business, none of that matters.” Despite her accomplishments, Erika candidly shares the challenges she continues to face.

“Sometimes I feel fearful when roles outside of my comfort zone come to me,” she admitted. “As an artist, you never feel 100% comfortable. You always feel like you can do better. Whether it’s navigating the unpredictability of improv or stepping into unfamiliar genres, Erika approaches every challenge as an opportunity for growth.

Erika also credits her mother and close-knit family for keeping her grounded. “My brothers don’t care about my projects. To them, I’m still the quirky little sister,” she laughed. This balance between ambition and humility has allowed her to navigate the highs and lows of her career gracefully.

Erika’s star continues to rise with multiple projects on the horizon, including her network television debut. “When people see what’s coming in the next few months, it’s going to shock them in the best way,” she teased. While details remain under wraps, her passion and drive ensure she is on a trajectory toward even greater success.
